AI out in the wild.

AI/GenAI is such a hot topic in business, pretty much every company I speak to is looking at, adopting or at least doing POCs.

But now that I have spent some time stepping back from that, I have seen how AI has started to become part of civilian life as well. A few weeks ago I had a long conversation with my Step-Dad about Prompt engineering as he has been using co-pilot at home to help him learn somethings and to check references for documents.

Another friend has been using ChatGPT to learn about a game he plays and to get tips. I walked him through how to better form his prompts and explained how hallucinations may be an issue. Also how LLMs may not have the most up to date rules in their knowledge base and you may need to augment the rules sets.

All in all, I think there is a big gap in what your average person should know about AI and how to interact with it. Its so easy because it is embedded in so many things, but it never explains to the user HOW TO interact with it.

As the Energy/Land/Water debates get stronger around GenAI, I think more of a focus needs to be all the places it available and not being used efficiently. I do wonder what the real numbers are now between Business use and "Civilian" use of GenAI and how can improvements could/Should be made to those services that have them embedded to better assist users to make more efficient use of the tools
